01 Admissions
When can I apply?
Applications open September 1 and close February 15 for the following fall cohort. We read on a rolling basis and respond within three weeks of receiving a complete file.
Do you require standardized tests?
No. We don't consider SAT, ACT, or GRE scores. We care about your portfolio, your references, and a 500-word letter about the work you want to make.
Can I transfer credits?
Yes β we accept up to 30 credits from accredited institutions, evaluated on a course-by-course basis after admission.
What does the portfolio need to include?
5β10 pieces of work that show your range and your point of view. It can be anything: short films, essays, apps, sketches, recordings. We read what you send.
02 Tuition & Aid
How much is tuition?
$34,200 per year for BFA and MFA programs. The MPS in Software Design is $42,000. Both figures include studio and equipment fees.
What financial aid is available?
68% of current students receive need-based aid. Average award is $22,400. We meet full demonstrated need for all admitted students.
Are there scholarships?
Yes β merit scholarships ranging from $5,000 to full tuition are awarded to roughly 12% of each incoming class, regardless of financial need.
Do you offer work-study?
On-campus jobs are available across all departments. Most students work 8β12 hours per week during the semester.
03 Campus Life
Where is the campus?
One campus in Brooklyn, NY β six buildings along a single block in Greenpoint. Every studio and classroom is a three-minute walk from the next.
Is housing provided?
We guarantee housing for all first-year students in three residence halls within two blocks of campus. Upperclass students live across Brooklyn and Manhattan.
What's the class size?
Studio courses cap at 14 students. Workshops cap at 8. Lectures can be larger, but every student also meets weekly with a faculty mentor one-on-one.
Can I take classes across departments?
Yes β and we encourage it. About 40% of coursework taken each year is outside a student's home department.
